As of October 2010, WWE‘s Friday night program Smackdown will be moving.

The show has aired for about two years on MyNetworkTV, but will be moving to Syfy Channel.

This move has to do with a few elements.  First off, they’ll be making more on Syfy.  They were being paid $20 million by MyNet, but Syfy is offering $30 million a year.  Nice little pay bump.

Also, the owner Vince McMahon has a strong business relationship with NBC UniversalWWE‘s Monday night program RAW airs on NBCU‘s USA Network – and the new WWE “reality” show NXT airs on Syfy Tuesdays, also owned by NBCU.

WWE is planning on launching their own cable channel potentially as early as next year, so this move might indicate that McMahon will partner up with NBCU on that as well.  Even with the vast video library that the WWE has (they own all the rights to WCW & ECW footage), 24/7 has a lot of hours to fill – so they could use all the help they can get!
